2017 J&J Fitting Iron Cup I State Championship Night Results

The Park Jefferson 2017 season came to a close with the I State Truck Centers Championship night of the 4th annual Iron Cup presented by J&J Fitting. It was a huge field of 137 race teams that descended on the Park Jefferson Speedway to close the season. When it was said and done, over $30,000 was paid out to close the season.

In the SignMasters Modifieds, it was Anthony Roth taking his silver and green Razor chassis to victory lane. Roth jumped out early to the lead, however track champion Bob Moore had other plans. Moore roared around 5 of his competitors to put the pressure on Roth, only to see Roth hold him off. Shane Demey, who gained valuable experience at the track this year, was able to round out 5th with a late race pass of Jim Thies. With 2 win in the Iron Cup, Roth was awarded the silver cup as the Iron Cup champion by virtue of having the lowest overall finish between the 2 nights.

In the J&J Fitting Stock Cars, it was another wild and wooley finish as fans have come to expect all year of the Stock Cars. Todd Gereau, who just missed out on a track champsionship, was able to come from the 4th row and avoid the mayhem in front of him to eek out the feature win over 6th row starting Travis Barker. Kevin Bruck finished strong for the season with a 3rd place run after a late pass of Ryan Harris and Aaron Cain. Drivers were racing 4 wide on many laps through the track as the action was often too close to call. Gereau picked up the Iron Cup championship.

In the IMCA Sprint Cars, it was Jack Dover who made quick work of Jesse Lindberg and rushed to the lead from the 4th spot. Dover looked to have everything in hand, however “The Combine” Dusty Ballenger had other plans. Ballenger, who figured out the optimal line off the botton of turn 4, roared under Dover to clich the win. It would be Dover who won the IMCA Sprint Car Iron Cup by getting a pair of 2nd place finishes.

The feature of the night was the Schaeffer Oil Sport Modifieds as the Vermillion Viper Karl Brewer was able to withstand all challenges to take the lead. Behind him, Rusty Montagne was a show unto himself as he worked the high line of the track to come from 15th to take 3rd. Sandwhiched between them was Trent Roth. Brewer took home his first Iron Cup.

The IMCA Hobby Stocks were right back to the same as Andy Hoffman garnered his 9th checkers of the season. Hoffman, who just could not be stopped all year, took over the lead after a bizarre incident which saw season champion Craig Clift get sideways on the opening laps. Clift rallied to 5th. Kent Hustad had a very strong run to 2nd and Steven Pierce roared 3rd.

The Fox 620 Sport Compacts saw the outsider Ramsey Meyer cross the Missouri river and invade to take the $300 check back to Husker country. Meyer battled to a win over Luke Jackson whose 2nd place finish earned him the Iron Cup over David Bates. Both Bates and Jackson tied with a 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The tiebreaker of best finish on the Championship night awarded the Iron Cup to Jackson.

The Nebraska 360 vs Midwest Sprint Touring Series made their final call on the Park Jefferson black gumbo, and the results saw Greg Bakker slip into victory lane from outside row 1. Bakker, who looked to finish in the runner up spot, dug down deep and roared off the bottom of turn 4 to slip under Knoxville season champion Clint Garner to get the win. Visiting Australian Scott Bogucki was 3rd.

The opening event of the Iron Cup was the Keizer Wheels Championship Sprint Cars season championship makeup. It was Jody Rosenboom who was the victor. Rosenboom, who also had a strong run in the MSTS points, was able to win over the Scadden owned Rens Trucking number6. Jordan Boston, who has had a whale of a season every time he races at Park Jefferson, finished 3rd.

With the strong run, Ryan Bickett became the 1st ever Championship Sprint Car Champion at Park Jefferson, with Cody Hansen of Nunda 2nd and Jordan Boston of Crete, Nebraska finishing 3rd.

Drivers were informed that Park Jefferson Speedway has already made plans for the 2018 season. Park Jefferson will continue to host IMCA Weekly Racing featuring six classes of cars, Modifieds, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts with opening point night slated for Saturday April 7th. The track will be in discussions with the Nebraska 360’s and MSTS to determine the weekly schedule for the Championship 360 Sprints. Park Jefferson’s 2017 season banquet will be held at the North Sioux City Fire Hall on Saturday, February 24th with the following day being the annual Sioux City Racers Swap Meet.
