Abelson and Mathees victorious on Sign Masters Night

An overflowing pit area of 107 cars entered racing competition at Park Jefferson Speedway for Sign Masters night. Earlier in the day saw a persistent threat of showers resulted in no rain, which gave way around 4 pm and led to a very windy night of racing. In the featured Sign Masters A Modified feature, Sioux City's Chis Abelson was able to power his way to victory. Utilizing a slicked off racing surface, Abelson was able to work from his 2nd row starting position to take the checkered in the $1,000 to win Fast Shafts qualfier. He was challenged early and often by 15 year old Jacob Anson of Albion, NE on the high side, and 2nd place finisher Travis Hatcher on the low side. Ricky Stephan and Reese Coffee rounded out the top five. The Midwest Late Models shared co billing as the feature class and saw 21 late models in the pits. WISSOTA perennial champion Lance Matthees made the tow from Winona, Minnesota to take the top spot over Gary Brown Jr of Sioux Falls. Matthees made his move early in the race and was able to navigate the quickly drying surface to hold off a persistent Brown to take his first checkered flat at Park Jefferson. Nick Beyenhof, Quentin Myers and Andrew Kosiski rounded out the top five. In the J&J Fitting Stock Cars, Aaron Cain appeared to shake off his early season woes with a new fan shroud, but ultimately fell back and Chris Mills took the win with Paul Wenzlaff second and Jason Ward coming in third. Point lead Todd Boulware once again charged from his the twelfth starting spot to take the win over Kirk Beatty and Keegan Nordquist. Nordquist continues to put up top finishes and is becoming the man on the mission. Mr. Consistency Jeff Brunssen was 4th and Karl Brewer was 5th. Dustin Gulbrandson travelled south from Sioux Falls and took the A main in the Fox 620 hobby stocks over point leader Rusty Montague and Chad Lonneman. Dave Riley and Andy Hoffman rounded out the top five. David Trobaugh was awarded the win over a small field of sport compacts after the disqualification of Max Bonine. Brian Seibold and Luke Jackson ran 2nd and 3rd.

Mid-Season Championship night will be held this Saturday with Liberty National Bank as the presenting sponsor. All five divisions will be racing for additional money and all divisions will feature a special draw/redraw format. Adult admission will be $1 higher this week for the Mid-Season Championship with adults tickets at $10, children 6-16 at $1 and seniors at $1. Pit passes will be $25. The clubhouse is fully sold out this Saturday with season pass holders and Liberty Bank employees.
