Inside Line Promotions – NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (April 27, 2020) – Old School Racing driver Channin Tankersley made the most of his 16-hour haul to Park Jefferson International Speedway last Saturday.

Tankersley captured his career-best 410ci winged sprint car result by recording a fifth-place finish during the Open Wheel Nationals presented by Real-Geese Silhouette Decoys.

“I was pretty happy with it,” he said. “The track was really racy for as fast as it was. You had to keep your momentum up whether you were rolling the bottom or the top. For the most part you had options. We made passes both on the top and bottom. That’s all you can ask for.”

Tankersley opened the action by qualifying 10th quickest out of the 32 drivers.

“That was about my fifth or sixth time ever to qualify,” he said. “We were close, but we need to work on it. I felt like we gave a little time up. For the most part the car and track was decent enough that we got going and set a decent time.”

Tankersley followed up his qualifying performance by gaining a position in a heat race to place third. That ranked him ninth in overall points to garner the ninth starting position for the 25-lap main event.

“I feel like we’re pretty competitive anywhere we go,” he said. “With a new setting it was a bit to get used to and having a 410 under the hood was a bit of learning experience. The car reacts different with the way you have to drive it. All around it was a learning curve. We were luckily close enough that we were able to be fairly competitive off the get-go.”

Tankersley progressed throughout the feature, climbing to a fifth-place showing before the checkered flag was waved.

“That was a long trip up there,” the Texas native said. “I think I’m still recovering from that drive. But we didn’t tear anything up and got a pretty good confidence boost out of it.”
